Southwestern Oklahoma State Athletics

An All-Stater in both baseball and basketball at Amarillo High School, Henry was originally offered a scholarship at the University of Texas but opted to play semi-pro baseball instead with teams in Elk City and Sweeny, Texas. He enrolled at Southwestern in 1948 and immediately impacted both the baseball and basketball teams. He pitched a no-hitter against Central State while striking out 22 batters, a record only surpassed by fellow Hall of Famer W.E. Jackson.

He signed a professional contract with the Chicago Cubs in 1950 and made it the Triple-A Level. He coached eight years at Leedey, Putnam and Carnegie High Schools where his teams won 20 or more games each season. He then moved to Clovis, N.M., where he coached winning teams for another eight years before concluding his career as an administrator in Plainview, Texas, Carlsbad, N.M., and Portales, N.M.
