Kitt is a former wrestler from Tulsa, Okla., who won two Oklahoma Collegiate Conference titles. He lost a referee’s decision for the NCAA title in 1936 and took third place in the national AAU title in 1939.

Kitt graduated in 1937 and went on to be a wrestling coach at Cleveland High School, Tulsa Webster, the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy. He served as past president of the Intercollegiate Wrestling Association and was a member of the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Committee and the American Wrestling Coaches and Officials Executive Committee. He was also a founding member of the United States Wrestling Federation. In 2003, Kitt was inducted into the Colorado chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame after posting a career record of 113-79-2.
