Hicks remains the school’s all-time leading rusher in football, more than 25 years since his playing days. He rushed for 4,233 yards and also holds the school records for most yards in a season with 1,511 set in 1971 and in a game with 294 against Eastern New Mexico. Overall, Hicks is listed in over 10 different statistical categories in the SWOSU record books. During his time at SWOSU, he was a three time all-conference player, and was the NAIA Offensive Player of the Year in 1972. Hicks played professionally for the Green Bay Packers in 1972 and a year later joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League. He last played professionally for the Houston Oilers in 1975. In 1999, he was selected to the Oklahoma All-Century football team.
