SWOSU Wraps Up Opening Round of NCAA Championships

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – SWOSU Women's Golf had a slow start to the 2024 NCAA Championships on Tuesday with three of the five Lady Bulldogs at, or over, a score of 80 in the opening round.

The No. 23-ranked Lady Bulldogs, paired with No. 9-ranked Lynn and No. 22 Grand Valley State, finished 25-over par as a team and are in 17th place after 18 holes. They'll go again tomorrow morning looking to gain ground on teams ahead of them on the leaderboard in hopes of cracking the top-8 to advance to match play later in the week.

Rebecca Lau was SWOSU's lowest score in round one. She carded a three-over 75 and shot even par on her back nine to finish the day.

Freya Sala had the opposite result from Lau. Sala was even after nine holes before finishing six-over on the back nine.

Ashlyn Acosta and Drew Dodgion both shot an 80. Megan Brown ended with an 83.

"Our first round certainly wasn't one we'd hoped for, but our girls are a confident group and they know we still have two days left to get back into the mix," said head coach Brad Fleetwood in a post-round interview. "Our group left with a positive attitude today and we're looking forward to the opportunity to get back on the course and show what kind of team we are."

Round two will begin at 11:40 am EST tomorrow when Dodgion tees it up for the Lady Dawgs.
