GARDEN CITY, Kan. – A pair of top-three individual finishes highlighted the SWOSU Rodeo team's trip to Garden City, Kansas, over the weekend. The Bulldogs came away with a fifth-place finish for the men's team while the women's team took eighth place at the rodeo.
Shelby Lankford led the way for the women's team, placing third in Breakaway Roping and ninth in Goat Tying. She was 3.0 seconds in the long round of breakaway and 3.8 seconds in the short go, which was good for third in the aggregate.
Kelsey Martin took third in the long round of Barrel Racing and eighth in the average while
Emma Watts added a top-ten finish in Breakaway as well.
As he has done for much of the season,
Nathan Hatchel had a strong performance in Bull Riding by finishing second in the average. After a ride of 79 points placed him third in the long round, Hatchel scored 85 points in the short go, which moved him up to second in the round and the aggregate. With the result, Hatchel remains the top Bull Rider in the Central Plains Region and he sits atop the national standings as well.
"We had some key individuals who really stepped up for us and they were really in the zone this weekend at Garden City," SWOSU Rodeo Coach
Mike Visnieski said. "I thought we were focused going into the rodeo and they got it done. I'm really proud of our team and I think they'll keep it up this weekend because I know our team is looking forward to competing in front of our home fans at the SWOSU Rodeo."
SWOSU now prepares for their home rodeo, the 47th Annual SWOSU NIRA Rodeo, which will be held on Thursday-Saturday (April 11-13) at the B.O.P Ram Rodeo Grounds in Weatherford.
