AUSTIN, Texas – SWOSU senior guard
Hailey Tucker was named a Second Team Academic All-American for the second straight season on Tuesday as CoSIDA unveiled the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America Teams®.
Tucker, who last season became the Lady Bulldog's first Academic All-American as an NCAA Division II institution, is one of five repeat performers on the All-America Teams, which honor first, second and third teams. Fourteen of the 15 members selected to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Women's Basketball teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, including Tucker, who has a 3.90 grade point average while majoring in Communications.
"I feel very blessed and honored to be named an Academic All-American and I first want to thank the top-notch professors at SWOSU for providing the student-athletes with a great education," Tucker said. "I also would not be in this position without my coaches, who really stress academics and put us in a position to be successful in the classroom."
Earlier this season, Tucker became the first player in Great American Conference to score over 2,000 career points and she's the conference's all-time leader in points and three-point field goals made. A native of Bartlesville, Okla., Tucker has helped her team to both the regular season and GAC Tournament championships and the Lady Bulldogs enter the NCAA Division II postseason with 30 straight victories to their credit. SWOSU's lone loss of the season came in the season opener against Emporia State, the same team they will face in the quarterfinals of the Central Region Championships on Friday in Hays, Kansas.
"We are so proud of Hailey and what she has done for the SWOSU Women's Basketball program in her four years here," GAC Coach of the Year
Kelsi Musick said. "Most know Hailey for her basketball game, but she also excels in the classroom as a now two-time Academic All-American. Hailey is a great representation of a Lady Bulldog both on and off the floor!"
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
