ADA, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball caught ECU on the wrong end of a hot shooting night as they dropped their final road game of the season, 75-54, in Ada on Thursday night.
The Tigers, who are the second lowest scoring team in the GAC, caught fire inside the Kerr Activities Center as they shot 52.1 percent from the field and 68.8 percent from beyond the three-point line, the second-highest mark in the league this season. Jayden Weiberg, daughter to SWOSU Men's Basketball Head Coach Brett Weiberg, led the way on her Senior Night, exploding for nine three-point makes, tied for the most in the GAC this year.
The Lady Dawgs fell behind quickly as ECU built a 17-point lead by the end of the first quarter after scoring a season-high 27 points in the opening frame. Heading into halftime, SWOSU trailed 41-25 after shooting just 8-27 from the field and struggling to capitalize on the offensive end, while ECU continued to knock down shots. The Tigers finished the half 15-25 (60%) from the field and 6-8 (75%) from three-point range, which proved to be the difference in the game to that point. The Lady Dawgs also had trouble on the glass, grabbing just five defensive rebounds, while ECU secured six offensive boards.
Although the Lady Dawgs started to find more rhythm on offense, the Tigers continued their shot making, not allowing SWOSU to gain any traction on the scoreboard to mount a comeback in the final 20 minutes.
The Lady Bulldogs shot just 18-59 (30.5%) on the night and 4-18 from beyond the arc. They were outrebounded 42-30 in favor of the Tigers. SWOSU was more than doubled up on the defensive glass, 29-14.
With just one game remaining in the regular season, SWOSU finds itself at 12-14 overall and 10-11 in conference play. The Lady Dawgs will host Southeastern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the PEC for Senior Day with postseason implications in the air.
