Kelsi Musick

Kelsi Musick has rebuilt the Southwestern Oklahoma State University women’s basketball program with an exciting brand of basketball that has led the Lady Bulldogs to six NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances and eight 20-win seasons. She coached SWOSU for 13 seasons, ending with an overall record of 259-125.

Musick's 10th season at SWOSU was her best as she led the Lady Bulldogs to their best season as an NCAA Division II institution. After dropping the season opener against Emporia State, the Lady Dawgs won 35 consecutive games and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship game, where they were upended by Lubbock Christian in double overtime. SWOSU finished the year with a school-record 35 victories, becoming the first team to win the Great American Conference Championship undefeated before winning the GAC Tournament and the school's first NCAA Division II Central Regional Championship. For her efforts, Musick was named the GAC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and an unprecedented fourth time overall.

In her first decade at SWOSU, Musick is averaging 19 wins per season with six 20-win seasons and four straight from 2015-19. She has guided the Lady Bulldogs to the NCAA Division II National Tournament four times with one regional championship and three GAC Tournament Championships to their credit. Over the past two seasons, Musick's team has a record of 61-7 for a winning percentage of 89.7% and they've posted the two highest-win totals at SWOSU in the NCAA era.

The fast-paced play of the Lady Bulldogs has helped SWOSU rank in the top ten nationally in scoring offense in six of the past eight seasons, averaging better than 80 points per game in four of those seasons. Additionally, the Lady Bulldogs have ranked in the top ten of NCAA Division II for three-pointers made four times in the past seven seasons, including ninth (8.0/game) in 2011-12 and second (9.5) in 2013-14.

Under Musick's direction, she has had four players named All-Americans in Darcie Dick, Michelle Fisher, Hailey Tucker and Hayden Priddy. Dick and Fisher both earned All-America recognition from the Division II Bulletin while Tucker was a three-time All-American and selected by multiple outlets following her junior and senior seasons. Priddy was named to three All-America teams after her senior season, including First Team selections from D2CCA and the Division II Bulletin. Tucker (2018) and Priddy (2019) also became the first Lady Bulldogs to be named Central Region Players of the Year, winning in back-to-back seasons.

In 10 seasons at SWOSU, Musick has tutored 26 players who have earned all-conference recognition, led by two-time GAC Player of the Year Hailey Tucker, who became the first four-time First Team All-GAC selection in conference history. She has also coached one three-time First Team selection (Hayden Priddy) and two two-time first team selections (Michelle Fisher & Sumiya Darden). Additionally, she has coached three GAC Players of the Year (Darcie Dick, 2012; Hailey Tucker, 2017-18; Hayden Priddy, 2019), one GAC Freshman of the Year (Hailey Tucker, 2016) and one Defensive Player of the Year (Tyra Aska, 2018). Dick, Tucker and Priddy are the two All-Americans that Musick has coached her during her tenure at SWOSU.

Prior to taking over the Bulldogs, Musick was an assistant coach at Fresno State University where she was part of a staff that posted consecutive 20-win seasons. Fresno State won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) regular-season and tournament titles in each of her last years and finished 24-9 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2008-09 before being eliminated by California.

Previous head coaching experience for Musick came from her hometown of Canton, Okla., where she led the high school girls team starting in 2005. She spent two seasons at CHS and had her team in the Class A regional tournament in 2006-07 before finishing with a 16-9 record.

Musick played collegiately at Cameron where she was a four-year starter for the Aggies from 1998-2002 at point guard. She set school records in career three-point average and assists while remaining a President's Leadership scholar at the school. Her final season in 2001-02, the Aggies set a school record for most wins (25) and made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Musick’s family has a strong basketball background. Her mother, Pam Bond, was a longtime head coach at Canton High School and her younger sister, Kenzi, was a star on Oklahoma City University’s NAIA Women’s National Runner-up teams in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

A native of Canton, Okla., and a 2002 graduate of Cameron University, Musick is married to former SWOSU strength and conditioning coach Josh Musick. The couple resides in Weatherford with their two sons, Maddox and Titus.
