SWOSU Women's Basketball looks to build off its split against tough competition last week as the Lady Dawgs head to Arkadelphia to take on Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.
In last week's homestand, the Lady Dawgs took down (rv) Arkansas Tech on Thursday in a wire-to-wire victory, dismantling the Golden Suns in an 84-56 win. SWOSU's defense limited Tech to a season-low 30 percent shooting while forcing 19 turnovers, tied for the second-most Arkansas Tech has committed this season. On the offensive end, the Lady Bulldogs turned in their most productive outing of the season, scoring a season-high 84 points on 45 percent shooting, their second-best mark of the year.
Against No. 15 Harding, the Lady Bulldogs kept the game within reach throughout and were tied early in the fourth quarter before Harding created separation with an 11-0 run that provided the cushion it leaned on down the stretch.
Against Ouachita, SWOSU holds a 26-10 record, though eight of the 10 losses have come in Arkadelphia, as the Lady Dawgs are just 8-8 inside Bill Vining Arena.
The Tigers are 10-7 on the year and 7-6 in GAC play, placing themselves in the top half of the league. In the first matchup this season, Ouachita Baptist earned a 67-60 win in Weatherford. Ouachita boasts one of the best offenses in the GAC at 72.6 points per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from three-point range, all ranking third in the conference. Despite the strong shooting numbers, the Tigers collect the fewest offensive rebounds in the league at just 8.4 per game. On the defensive side, however, they limit extra possessions by leading the conference in defensive rebounds at 28.7 per game.
Madeleine Tipton scores a team-high 15.6 points per game for the Tigers but was held to just nine points against the Lady Dawgs earlier this season. She has scored in single figures only five times this year. Heidi Robinson is close behind at 14.4 points per game and recently turned in one of the most memorable performances of the season, pouring in 48 points against Henderson State, the most points scored in a Division II game this season.
SWOSU holds an 18-9 record against the Reddies since joining the GAC but is just 7-6 when playing in Arkadelphia, compared to an 11-3 mark in Weatherford.
Henderson State sits at 11-6 overall and are also 7-6 in conference play and welcome NWOSU to town on Thursday before SWOSU on Saturday. They have the second-ranked offense in the GAC at 73.4 points per game while shooting close to a league-high 34 percent from three-point range, trailing only Northwestern. Defensively, the Reddies rank 11th in the GAC, allowing 69.8 points per game, while opponents shoot a league-high 42.4 percent against them. Against SWOSU earlier this season, Henderson State's offense was red hot, jumping out to a 20-0 lead and knocking down 14 three-pointers, the most made against the Lady Dawgs all year.
Natalie Cardenas leads the way for the Henderson State offense with 18.5 PPG to be the fourth highest scorer in the GAC this season, she also brings in 1.7 steals a game. Brynlee Huggins adds 14.8 PPG while shooting close to 40% from deep with 2.5 makes a game, the second most in the GAC. Grayson Fairless anchors the paint with a GAC high 11.2 rebounds a game.
SWOSU enters the week 7-11 overall while being 5-8 in the GAC. They have the tenth ranked offense at 63.3 PPG while the defense allows 64.7 PPG, which is the sixth best. Opponents shoot the third worst shooting percentage at 37.6% against the Lady Dawgs. The Lady Dawgs bring in 38.7 rebounds a game and have the most blocks (5.39 per game) and second most steals at 9.78 in the GAC.
Landry Allen ranks in the top 10 in Points, Rebounds, Steals and Blocks in the GAC. She averages 15.3 points per game along with 6.9 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 4.8 blocks a game, the second-best mark in the nation. Allen has recorded nine straight games of at least four blocks, including last week where she nearly recorded a triple double against Tech with 22 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocks, which ties her program record she set earlier this year. She just took home her seventh GAC Defensive Player of the Week award out of the 11 weeks the award has been given out.
Sincere Jackson scores 13.6 PPG on 47.3% shooting, she also is averaging 6.8 rebounds a game. Elle Papahronis scores 12.1 points each night with 8.7 rebounds, the fourth best mark in the conference and 2.3 steals, third in the GAC.
