SWOSU Women's Basketball is set to take on Eastern New Mexico in its first road game of the season, concluding the non-conference portion of the schedule on Monday night.
The Lady Dawgs are coming off a heartbreaking 62-61 buzzer-beater loss to No. 7 Lubbock Christian last Monday. SWOSU held a 61-59 lead with eight seconds remaining following a pair of free throws and needed one final defensive stop. After LCU advanced the ball with a timeout, the Lady Chaps buried the deciding three-pointer as time expired.
SWOSU holds a 7-6 lead over the Greyhounds all-time, including an 81-59 win last season after forcing 27 turnovers. In Portales, ENMU leads the series 4-2, with the last meeting there taking place in 2010.
Three Lady Bulldogs lead the way, starting with
Landry Allen, who averages 12.8 points per game on 41.7% shooting from the field while also making four three-pointers this season at a 33% clip. She grabs 5.5 rebounds per game and 2.8 steals (second in the conference) while blocking four shots per contest, the second-highest mark in the nation.
Elle Papahronis adds 12 PPG and gets to the line nearly eight times per game, shooting 58% from the charity stripe. She ranks second in the conference with 10.8 rebounds per game. Through four games, she is averaging a double-double despite not recording one in a single game. She also leads the GAC with 3.3 steals per game.
Sincere Jackson is coming off the best game of her career, leading all scorers with a career-high 23 points and adding eight rebounds during the Lady Dawgs' upset bid against the Lady Chaps. She is averaging 12 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs rank 11th in offense at just 58.8 PPG, but a stout defense that allows only 57.8 PPG has made the difference, placing them fourth in the GAC in that category. The Lady Dawgs average just 4.5 made three-pointers per game at 24%, both the lowest marks in the league, and they shoot 62.2% from the free-throw line, also the lowest in the GAC. SWOSU grabs the third-most offensive rebounds in the conference at 15.3 per game. They rank fifth in blocks (5.5 per game) and second in steals at 12.25.
Eastern New Mexico comes into the game at 2-3. In their last outing, they picked up a 35-point win over Newman. Last season, the Greyhounds went 21-10 and reached the NCAA Tournament, winning in the first round before being knocked out by No. 1 seed Texas Woman's. They are averaging 76.6 PPG while giving up 67.8 PPG on the defensive end, shooting 42.3% from the field and 35.7% from deep. They force 21.4 turnovers per game while committing only 16.8.
