SWOSU Women's Basketball is back at home this week after splitting last week's GAC/MIAA crossover. Just one game is on the slate for this week, when Missouri Southern comes to town on Wednesday.
Last week, the Dawgs took care of business against Rogers State, 65-49, in the season opener before falling short against Northeastern State, 63-44.
Junior forward transfer
Landry Allen leads the Dawgs in PPG at 10.5, largely in part due to a 17-point opening game in which she went 7-17 while knocking down two three-pointers, along with seven rebounds, three assists, one block, and seven steals, which is the fifth most in the nation for a single game this season.
Payten Conde, a junior guard transfer from Oklahoma Baptist, saw her first action for the Lady Bulldogs last weekend. She had seven points in the opener against the Hillcats, along with four steals. In the game vs. Northeastern State, she had a team-high 12 points with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Returning sophomore
Sincere Jackson posted a double-double in the season opener after scoring 17 points on 50% shooting while going 8-9 from the line. She also pulled in 10 rebounds and dished out two assists. Transfer
Elle Papahronis nearly had back-to-back double-doubles in her first two games in the blue and white; she had eight points and 13 boards in the win over Rogers State, and nine points to go along with 12 rebounds against the Riverhawks. She was the only Lady Dawg to make a three-pointer in each game, and took home the first GAC defensive Player of the Week award after also securing seven steals in the opening weekend, six of which came on Saturday's game.
The Lady Dawgs are shooting 32.4% from the field and just 22.2% from distance on 18 attempts per game. SWOSU is averaging 40 rebounds per contest and has both committed and forced 43 turnovers.
Missouri Southern enters the matchup at 1-1 after their opening weekend at the MIAA/NSIC Crossover, where they won an overtime meeting with Augustana, 86-84, before dropping a close one against the University of Mary, 76-73. They are currently averaging 79.5 PPG while shooting 44.4% from the field and 25% from three. They have three players in double-digit scoring, led by Ashlyn Alloway, who is scoring 24.5 PPG, and Grace Frazier, who adds 19 a night.
The Lions went 19-14 last season and 10-9 in MIAA play. They advanced to the second round of the MIAA Tournament before falling to Pittsburg State, 89-46, to close out their season.
SWOSU fell to MSSU 49-44 last season when the two teams met. All-time, the Lions hold a 5-4 lead over the Lady Bulldogs dating back to 2003. The two teams have only met in Weatherford once, with MSSU winning 71-68 in 2015.
