MAGNOLIA, Ark. – SWOSU Track & Field had two earn all-conference recognition and another two named Distinguished Scholars by the league at the 2024 Great American Conference Championships. The Bulldogs went on to finish ninth as a team in the final meet of the season.
Freshman thrower
Torri Tottress shattered the shot put school record and placed third in the event with a 13.6m throw in her first conference meet as a Bulldog. Entering the weekend, her furthest distance had been 12.35m before she one-upped her personal best and set the school's top mark previously held (and set) by
Marleigh West earlier this season. For her third-place finish, she was awarded the final First Team All-GAC spot in shot put.
Another freshman,
Natesa Ford, was fifth in hammer throw – good for Second Team All-GAC honors. Ford already held the Hammer Throw record at SWOSU (46.71m) and beat her best old mark with a 47.4m hurl at the conference meet.
In triple jump, two-sport athlete
Natalie Freeman edged her previous school record with an 11.03m mark and was 10th overall.
Marleigh West and
Delaney York both earned Distinguished Scholar honors by the GAC. That distinction is awarded to student-athletes with a minimum 70 hours completed and a 3.7 cumulative GPA at the time of their championship event.
Oklahoma Baptist made it three straight team titles after capturing first place at the meet. They defeated Harding by 38.5 team points. Ouachita Baptist finished third with another significant gap between them and the Lady Bisons.
With the GAC Championships in the books, SWOSU concludes a seven-meet spring schedule and the 2024 season.
