WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – SWOSU's final round of stroke play concluded at the 2024 NCAA Championships on Thursday. The No. 23-ranked Lady Bulldogs finished 14th overall in their third trip to the national tournament trip in program history.
No. 2 Flagler College (851; -13) won the stroke play portion of the tournament by four strokes over No. 4 West Texas A&M. Gabby Woods of Findlay University was -9 in three rounds to win the individual title.
Megan Brown had SWOSU's best round to close out the tournament after
Rebecca Lau did so for rounds one and two. Brown shot even par to finish her tournament trend of improved scores in each round. She birdied three times on the back nine and four times on the day.
Lau, who ended up as the team's top overall finisher in 34th place, was two-over in her final 18 holes. She salvaged her score with a birdie on No. 18 – her only birdie of the round.
Like Lau,
Drew Dodgion also finished strong. She birdied three-straight from hole 16 and on and ended with a four-over 76. Dodgion was responsible for the lowest score of any SWOSU golfer yesterday when she fired a two-under 70.
Freya Sala was a 77 in her final round.
Ashlyn Acosta shot an 81.
The top eight teams from stroke play advanced to contend for a national title, which will eventually be crowned on Saturday, May 25. Of those teams, fellow GAC competitor Henderson State lies in the field.
SWOSU ends a successful 2023-24 season that saw two tournament wins and a second-place finish at the NCAA Central Region Tournament – matching their second-best finish in the region tournament in program history.
