WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Women's Golf landed two inside the top-10, including
Freya Sala who tied for second, and went on to finish third as a team at the 2024 Great American Conference Championships.
Henderson State won the team title by 16 strokes over Harding. The Lady Bisons edged out the Lady Bulldogs by a single stroke to claim second place. HSU's Allie Bianchi (71-80-75) won the individual crown by two strokes over Sala and three others. Bianchi eagled her final hole to win the event.
Sala rose into sole possession of first place after the halfway mark of Tuesday's final round but shot five-over on the back nine which allowed Bianchi back into contention. Her best round came in the opening round when she carded a 74 thanks to four of her seven birdies in the tournament.
Megan Brown shot a 70 in Sunday's opening round – the lowest round by any women's golfer in the tournament – and had sole possession of first place before finishing 15-over par in her final 36 holes. She ended sixth in the tournament, just one stroke back from Sala, and led the team with nine birdies as the best golfer on par-4s in the field at +5 in 30 total holes.
Rebecca Lau climbed 13 spots by the end of her final round after starting the tournament off with an 81. She shaved three strokes off her second round and another stroke off the final round and finished T-13 overall. Lau's most success came on par-3s. She was one +1 in 12 total holes – the second best in the field.
Drew Dodgion and
Anna Marksa rounded out the team. Dodgion shot a 78 as her best score in round one, while Marksa followed Lau's lead by shaving strokes off every round she played.
