WEATHERFORD – SWOSU's women's team won the annual home rodeo for the first time in a decade behind three round winners including Bella Corcoran who claimed the average title in Breakaway Roping.
 
For the women, it's their third rodeo win of the season. They sit narrowly atop the Central Plains Region standings and extend that lead thanks to this latest result.

In total, 10 SWOSU competitors from both teams qualified for Saturday's final round.

Corcoran clocked identical 2.7 second times in both rounds with different placings in both after tying for second with two others in the long round and winning the short go. She's the sixth different SWOSU cowgirl to win the average in an event this season.
 
Other women's team members to earn the top spot in a round included Libby Berger in Barrel Racing and Cheyenne VandeStouwe in Goat Tying. Both were long round winners in their events.
 
Hadley Tate narrowly missed the top spot in the short go of Barrel Racing when she finished second with a 16.58 – just .05 seconds shy of the leader. Meanwhile, Hadley Teut finished second in the short round of Goat Tying with a 7.9 second time. 
 
The men's team had a pair of sixth place overall finishes in two events, highlighted by Brody McAbee's win in the long round of Saddle Bronc. They went on to place ninth as a team.
 
It was McAbee's third round win of the season after clean sweeping both rounds at Fort Scott's Rodeo and his latest long round win at SWOSU. His 80-point ride in Thursday's performance is his highest of the collegiate season.
 
Bob Walter and Blake Chowning both earned points in Bareback with their first-round rides but could not score in the short go. Walter (6th) edged Chowning (7th) on the score sheet thanks to his better round one ride of 64 points. 
 
Two rodeos remain on the schedule leading up to the CNFR in June. SWOSU gets right back to action this weekend when they travel to Fort Hays State's event in Kays, Kansas this Thursday through Saturday, April 18-20.
