Lady Dawgs Close Out Regular Season vs ECU, at No. 6/7 SNU

WEATHERFORD – The SWOSU Women's Basketball team plays in the final two regular season games of the year this week. They'll host East Central on Thursday at 5:30 pm before visiting No. 6/7 Southern Nazarene on Saturday at 1 pm.

SWOSU turned in the biggest win of the season last week at the perfect time. After a tough loss to Arkansas Tech to open the week, the Lady Bulldogs pulled off a huge upset by taking down No. 3/5 Harding 54-51 in nail-biting fashion. The Lady Bisons had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Beyonce Lane blocked a game-tying three pointer to secure the upset victory.

The win against Harding moved SWOSU's conference record to 10-10 and secured them a spot in the GAC Tournament. Their seed will be determined by the outcomes of this week's games.

In the prior matchup against East Central, the Lady Bulldogs got their biggest win of the season 65-35. This game was tightly contested when SWOSU broke off a 35-4 extended run in the second half to pull away. Southern Nazarene defeated SWOSU in their earlier meeting 77-56. Shooting woes plagued the Lady Bulldogs in that game, shooting a season low 17.9% from three.

East Central is 4-16 in GAC play and has been eliminated from GAC Tournament talks. They are coming into this game off a win against Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers like to shoot from long range. They rank third in the GAC in three-point makes per game and fourth in total makes. ECU has not played well on the road this season, just two wins in 11 tries away from home.

SWOSU holds an 18-9 home record against ECU, including two straight and last year's 86-71 win in Weatherford.

No. 6/7 Southern Nazarene holds a 25-1 record and are 19-1 in GAC matchups. They are currently the number one seed in the GAC and if they defeat Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday night, they will win the GAC Regular Season title. SNU has a hard-nosed defense, ranking first in the conference in opponent scoring and field goal percentage. After dropping their only game this year to Harding, they have won their last four games by an average of 15.5 points.

SWOSU has an 8-4 road record versus SNU, but Southern Nazarene has been the better team as of late. The Crimson Storm have won the last three games in the series and two of the last three in Bethany.
