WEATHERFORD – Looking to snap a four-game losing streak, SWOSU Women's Basketball is back at home for two games this week as the regular season winds down. They host Arkansas Tech at 5:30 pm on Thursday and No. 3/5 Harding at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
SWOSU stands at fifth in the GAC standings with an even 9-9 record in league play heading into the final two weeks of the season. They hold a one game lead over Arkansas Tech (8-10) and a two-game lead (7-11) over a group of four teams in the conference standings.
Northwestern Oklahoma State defeated SWOSU 72-48 in Alva last Thursday before Southeastern Oklahoma State narrowly edged the Lady Dawgs 68-64 in Durant on Saturday.
SWOSU won the first matchup at Arkansas Tech 55-48 on January 20. Neither team shot the ball well and the Lady Bulldogs pressured the Golden Suns to the tune of 27 turnovers. They scored 30 of their 55 points off of those turnovers. In Searcy earlier in the year, Harding edged out a 79-72 win against SWOSU. The Lady Bisons got to the free throw line at will, shooting 38 free throws – a season high for a SWOSU opponent.
Arkansas Tech is 11-11 and 8-10 in conference play. ATU has won two out of their last three, including an 87-54 beatdown of Oklahoma Baptist. They will pose a tough matchup inside for the Lady Dawgs. Arkansas Tech grabs a GAC leading 42.7 rebounds per game.
The Golden Suns won 79-72 the last time these two teams played in Weatherford a year ago. Before that, SWOSU had won the six previous games at home in the series.
No. 3/5 Harding boasts a 22-2 overall record and 17-1 in the GAC. While they sit near the top of both polls now, Harding was not represented in either at the start of the season. They will visit Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday before coming to Weatherford on Saturday. The Lady Bisons have won their last 11 games, but had close calls recently. Their last two wins are by a combined five points.
Where the game has been against Harding has been the difference in the series. In the all-time series, SWOSU is 11-3 at home and 3-12 on the road against HU.
