HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – SWOSU women's golf competed in the Battle for the Belt tournament at Hot Springs Country Club on Monday and Tuesday where the Lady Bulldogs claimed second place as a team behind multiple top-10 individual finishes.
Host Henderson State narrowly won the tournament over SWOSU by two strokes. The Lady Bulldogs shot even par as a team in Tuesday's final round – the lowest score of any team in any round of the tournament –
to put pressure on the Reddies, but came up just short of the top spot. UT-Tyler finished well behind in third.
Four Lady Dawgs were inside the top-10 by the end of play.
Freya Sala and
Drew Dodgion led SWOSU on the leaderboard and ended with the same total score, tied for fourth place overall. Both entered the day outside of the top five but made upward moves after excellent final rounds. It is the second time placing in the top-10 for both golfers in the 2023-24 season.
Megan Brown followed right behind them tied for sixth. She also shot her best in the final round. After shooting 76 (+4) in round two, she carded the second lowest round of any competitor in the tournament with two-under 70 in round three.
Rebecca Lau came in at T-10th. She played consistent all three rounds, 74-76-75, to finish in the top-10 for the second tournament this year.
Ashlyn Acosta rounded out the Bulldog competitors with her highest finish of the season at T-17.
SWOSU has now had a top-10 finisher in three of the four tournaments this season. They will finish out their fall schedule on October 23-24 at the Tulsa Cup.
