MONKEY, ISLAND, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Golf earned its third straight top-three team finish after a field-best +5 third round, which moved the Lady Dawgs up five spots in the final 18 holes in the last regular-season event of the year.
The Lady Bulldogs used a 293 final round, the best in the field of 17 teams, to move up five spots and earn a tie for second alongside Central Oklahoma. GAC foe Arkansas Tech won the event by 10 strokes, as they had three players finish in the top 10.
Maria Velilla racked up her sixth top-10 finish of the season and third straight as she shot a -2 (70) in her final round, one of seven under-par rounds on day three. She totaled 12 birdies on the week and had at least three each day while improving her score every round. Her 12 birdies ranked as the second-most in the field of 90.
Freya Sala finished the week at +9 to end tied for 19th. For Sala, this is her first time all year, including the fall season, that she did not finish in the top seven. It is also her first time outside the top 15 of a tournament since the 2024 National Championship. She went 75-74-76 over the three rounds. After not having a birdie in her opening 18 holes, she recorded three in each of the final two rounds.
Daniela Espinoza ended in the same spot as teammate Sala at +9 on the week. After going +3 through the first 36 holes, she went +5 over the final five holes of the last day, which put a stain on her overall performance. Her best round came in the middle with three birdies, finishing even par over the 18 holes.
Nerea Anton had a slow start, shooting an 83 in her opening 18 holes, which featured two double bogeys and two triple bogeys. However, she rebounded well, going 74-69 in her final 36 holes. The 69 was the lowest round by any SWOSU golfer during the week and included three birdies with just one bogey on the scorecard.
London Wilson rounded out the Lady Dawg lineup, going 78-76-79 while racking up seven birdies on the week.
The Lady Bulldogs will compete in the GAC Championship next week, April 13-15 at Page Belcher G.C. (Stone Creek) in Tulsa, where
Freya Sala will look to defend her title from last season. SWOSU finished fourth as a team last year.
