TULSA, OK. – SWOSU Women's Golf opened the year with a solid showing at the NSU Women's Classic behind a top 15 finish by Maria Velilla.

Rogers State won the event, finishing +22 throughout the competition, Southeastern took second at +26 with Oklahoma Baptist (+37) rounding out the top three.  

This is the first of five tournaments on the fall schedule, as well as the Perkins cup against Northwestern in just a few weeks. All six Lady Dawgs made the trip; 1st year player Jaime Meth competed as an individual, going 82-76, and finishing +16 with three birdies over the 36 holes.  

Velilla, the reigning GAC Freshman of the Year, started her year off strong with a T-13 finish, going 75-76 over her two rounds. She totaled four birdies and played the par-5s as well as anyone, going –1 on those holes, tied for the second best in the field.  

Daniela Espinoza finished T-30 with 22 pars on her scorecard; she went 81-77, improving her score by four shots on day 2.  

London Wilson also finished with 22 pars, going 78-81 on her week, in her opening round she six bogeys, with no doubles on her round.  

Birdie Brown and Nerea Anton rounded out the Lady Dawgs, Brown had two Birdies in her Monday round with Anton have one in her first round of 78. 

SWOSU Women's Golf will be back on the course next week for the Newman Invitational at Terradyne CC in Andover, Kan. On September 21-22.
