Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Five players, including four starters, finished in double figures to help No. 20-ranked SWOSU Women's Basketball defeat rival Northwestern Tuesday night 92-58 in an all-around team effort.
The two squads met back on January 13 and Northwestern won the game 79-68, so the Lady Bulldogs got the revenge they were desperately hoping for.
SWOSU wasted zero time proving they were the better team, as they built a 23-7 going into the second quarter. SWOSU scored 13 points off turnovers and the offense looked to be clicking from the jump.
SWOSU continued to dominate in the second quarter simply by playing defense and making shots. The Lady Bulldogs went 57.6 percent from the field and shot nearly 50 percent from beyond the arc, which helped build a 48-22 halftime advantage.
Morgan Smith had the hot hand in the second half, as she shot five of six from beyond the arc and scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half.
Northwestern tried to make a push early in the second half after opening the third quarter on an 8-4 run, but it proved to be no threat to the Lady Bulldogs as they continued to dominate and built a 73-45 going into the fourth quarter.
All that was left in the fourth quarter was to let the clock get to zeros. The bench played the last five minutes of the game and SWOSU won their seventh game in a row.
Lauren Ramey scored a team high 19 points, while Makyra Tramble and Smith both scored 17 points apiece. Macy Gore (14) and Bethany Franks (12) also both finished in double figures.
SWOSU improves to 22-4 and 16-2 in Great American Conference Play. They'll play their next game, 5:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Harding in a matchup of the top-two teams in the conference.
The Lady Dawgs will look to avenge another conference loss, as Harding defeated them 77-69 back on January 22nd.
