ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU Rodeo concluded the fall portion of their schedule this past weekend. The men's team wrangled in third while the women finished as the runner up.
 
It is the first weekend since the 2022-23 season began that neither SWOSU team won a title.
 
For the men, SWOSU had a pair of top-five finishers in two events.
 
In Saddle Bronc, Tim Troyer and Brody McAbee finished tied for second with each other in the average. Troyer's 77-point ride won the long round, while McAbee's 75 points in the short go was good enough for a share of the final round's top score.
 
McAbee ranks second in the Central Plains Region right now, while Troyer sits fourth.  
 
Hunter Tate had a strong first round in Bull Riding when he ripped off a score of 84. That ride was the highest of any competitor on the weekend. Despite a no score in the finals, his strong start gave him a share of the win in the average. Dustin Sanchez mirrored Tate with a ride in the first round and a no score in the short round. His 76 points had him fourth overall on the weekend.
 
Sanchez leads all region riders in total points. Tate is fifth.
 
The women got three top-five placings at Northwestern.
 
After winning the Barrel Racing last event, Abby Hepper finished second in Alva with times of 13.23 and 13.11 seconds. She now sits second in the region.
 
Cheyenne VandeStouwe tied for third in Goat Tying. She leads the region in the event and is tailed by her sister Chenoa who is in fourth. Cheyenne is also second in the region in Breakaway Roping.
 
Alli Masters clocked a 2.1-second-long round time in the Breakaway and won the round. She finished third in the average.
 
The teams will break from action the next few months and will resume competition February 16 at Kansas State's Rodeo. The spring schedule will feature six more events, including the 50th Annual SWOSU Rodeo set to be held April 13-15.
