FORT SCOTT, Kan. – A second consecutive first-place finish for
Nathan Hatchel highlighted the SWOSU Rodeo team's trip to Fort Scott Community College over the weekend.
Hatchel scored 85.5 points in the long round of Bull Riding before getting 83 points for his ride in the short go, both of which were tops in the round and allowed him to win the average at the second straight rodeo.
Brayden Tanner turned in a runner-up finish in Steer Wrestling after winning the long round and splitting third and fourth in the short round as the duo helped SWOSU finish sixth in the men's team standings.
On the women's side, SWOSU placed eighth as a team behind a third-place finish from
Taylor Lagasse in Breakaway Roping and a fifth-place finish from
Kelsey Martin in Barrel Racing.
Mable McAbee was sixth in Goat Tying and ninth in Breakaway.
"Coach Visnieski has always taught me how important my mental game really is so I started getting my mind and thoughts to be confident about my riding to where I believed in myself," Hatchel said, when asked about what's allowed him to start the spring season so strong. "I am physically in the best shape that I have ever been in so that has played a big factor on my success this season. I drew two great bulls this weekend that I knew were ones to win on, then I trusted in the work I've put in to get another great win at Fort Scott!"
SWOSU Rodeo returns to action on April 5-7 at Garden City CC.
