MANHATTAN, Kan. – SWOSU Rodeo rode back into action this weekend in Manhattan, Kan., at the Kansas State NIRA Rodeo, which concluded on Sunday. The Bulldogs came away with a third-place finish on the men's side while the women's team finished in sixth place.
 
Nathan Hatchel was the star of the weekend, scoring 83 points on both of his rounds in bull riding. His scores were the highest in each round and allowed him to also finish atop the field in the average. Nick Shenold won the long round of Saddle Bronc with a ride of 83 points and backed that up with a ride of 75 points, which split second in the round and placed him second in the average. Layton Little added a fourth-place finish in the average of Tie Down Roping.
 
Taylor Lagasse teamed with Trey Hall of Panhandle State to win first place in Team Roping. The duo finished their first run in a time of 8.9 seconds, which placed ninth in the long round, but their time of 8.0 seconds in the short go was the fastest and allowed them to vault to the top of the leaderboard. Mable McAbee also scored for the women's team with a ninth-place finish in Barrel Racing.
 
"Nathan, Taylor, Nick & Layton really stepped up for us this weekend at Kansas State," SWOSU Rodeo Coach Mike Visnieski said. "I feel confident they will bring the heat the rest of the spring season as well!"
 
SWOSU Rodeo returns to action on March 8-10 in Fort Scott, Kansas.
