MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – The Lady Bulldogs finished up their Spring Break at the Barry Women's Invitational on Tuesday with the completion of the third and final round. SWOSU ended with a 12th place team finish in a stacked field that was comprised of 16 teams – eight of which ranked in the Top 25 in NCAA Division II including five of the top six teams in the latest rankings.
Elin Wahlin was the top performer for SWOSU in the tournament, shooting a 230 (+14) through three rounds which included a team best score of 74 (+2) in her final round on Tuesday. She was also the lone Lady Bulldog to avoid a single score of 80 or higher in any of her rounds in the tournament.
Gloria Choi (238, +22) and
Emily Folsom (239, +23) were separated by a single stroke in the event as SWOSU's second and third place golfers, followed by
Chloe Thackeray (241, +25) and finally
Tracy McGill (245, +29).
No. 1 nationally ranked Nova Southeastern (FL) took the Barry Invitational crown after topping the field by 12 strokes with a team score of 873 (+9). The Sharks were led by Sophie Madden (214, -2) and Jamie Freedman (215, -1) who finished first and second overall respectively as individuals and a stroke within each other.
SWOSU will be back on the course again April 9-10 in Springfield, Missouri at the Central Region Spring Preview. It will mark the final tournament before the GAC Championships in Hot Springs, Ark. at the end of the month.
