RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – For the second time in as many weeks, SWOSU Women's Basketball junior guard
Hailey Tucker has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week.
Tucker tied for the lead in scoring in both games last week with teammate
Hayden Priddy, scoring 17 points against No. 19 Arkansas Tech on Thursday and 24 points against Harding on Saturday – averaging 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds on the week. She posted her second double-double in a row and third of the season against Tech by also grabbing 10 rebounds while adding three blocks and three steals to her final stat line. Against Harding, Tucker continued to fill the stat sheet up after tying her career mark for blocks in a single game with six and added two more steals.
As of Monday, December 4th, Tucker leads the GAC in scoring (21.3 ppg) and blocks (2.8) while also ranking fifth in rebounding (8.0). SWOSU is the only team that remains undefeated on the women's side, sitting at an unscathed 8-0 overall and 4-0 in league play and with a No. 25 ranking in both national polls. Following the second win over a ranked opponent and an undefeated week, the Lady Bulldogs are sure to continue to rise in the polls when the new weekly ones release.
This is the second time Tucker has garnered the weekly GAC honor this season, after earning the award four times as a sophomore and once as a freshman. In the four weeks that the weekly honor has been given out this year, a SWOSU player has garnered the recognition three times – twice to Tucker and once to
Tyra Aska.
The Lady Bulldogs (8-0) will face their third Top 25 matchup of the season on Thursday, when they travel to No. 8 Lubbock Christian for a non-conference affair. The Lady Chaps are 9-1 on the season with a lone loss to the defending national champion.
