Results ALVA, Okla. – Both SWOSU Rodeo teams finished the fall season strong and they will enter the spring ranked second in the Central Plains Region following their performances at the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo in Alva. The Bulldog men finished fourth at the rodeo while the women's team took second.
The women's team totaled 350 points, coming in second behind Southeastern Oklahoma State in a competitive team battle between the top four teams.
Jacoby Hotsenpiller and
Stacey Bailey finished first and second in goat tying while Alexis Christen took third in breakaway roping with
Ceri McCaffery also placing in both events.
Megan White also added a share of sixth in the average of breakaway roping for SWOSU while McCaffery and
Jenny Brorsen finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in barrel racing.
Panhandle State won the rodeo on the men's side with 660 points and SWOSU finished just behind Northwestern Oklahoma State and Fort Scott with 320 points.
Justin Pollmiller led the way after winning the first round in bareback and splitting second in the average while
Cody Goertzen and
Mickey Andrews brought home second place finishes in saddle bronc and bull riding.
Colton Poole claimed third in bull riding while
Luke Madsen shared fifth in tie down roping.
"Our athletes have consistently improved since we started in August and they have finished strong this fall," SWOSU Coach
Mike Visnieski said. "Their hard work is paying off and I'm really proud of them."
The event wraps up the fall portion of the schedule for the Bulldog rodeo teams, who will both enter the spring in second place in the region. The men's team is within 200 points of Central Plains Region leader Panhandle State while the women face a bit steeper deficit but they are just under 400 points behind Northwestern Oklahoma State.
SWOSU opens the fall portion of the schedule on February 20 at the Kansas State Rodeo in Manhattan, Kan., the first of six spring rodeos before the College National Finals Rodeo next summer.
