JOPLIN, Mo. – The first road trip of the season was not kind to the SWOSU women's basketball team as the Lady Bulldogs were handed a 99-83 setback at Missouri Southern on Saturday afternoon.
SWOSU was held to 37% (26-of-70) shooting from the field and connected on 7-of-21 three point attempts in the effort while the Lions connected on 55% (35-of-64) of their field goal attempts. MSSU also outrebounded the Lady Dawgs by 10 (48-38) and pulled out the victory despite 27 turnovers. The potent offense of SWOSU was limited as the Bulldogs only had four assists on 26 made baskets.
Sarina Sayama led SWOSU with 16 points of the bench in 15 minutes of action.
Michelle Fisher was held to a season-low 14 points and
Chelsea Bates also reached double figures by scoring 13.
Missouri Southern was powered by their posts as Sharese Jones and Dominique Mosley scored 29 and 27 points, respectively. The Lions improve to 1-1 on the year.
The Lady Bulldogs are on the road twice next week, opening up Great American Conference play at Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday before visiting Southern Arkansas next Saturday.
