WEATHERFORD, Okla. – An 11-game losing streak for the Southwestern Oklahoma State University women's basketball team against Northeastern State was snapped Wednesday night as the Lady Bulldogs knocked down over 50% of their field goal attempts and coasted to a 96-73 victory over the Riverhawks.
After starting slow, by her standards,
Michelle Fisher poured in 23 points in the second half and finished with a career high 31 points to lead SWOSU to the victory. Fisher hit 11-of-15 field goal attempts and 6-of-8 shots from downtown in the effort.
Kylie Boggess hit 5-of-6 three pointers to finish with 15 points while
Taryn Sayama poured in 12 points in 19 minutes.
It was the second time in three games that the Lady Bulldogs knocked down 16 three pointers, connecting on 16-of-29 (55.2%) attempts from long distance. Six different players connected on a triple with Boggess, Fisher and Sayama all making multiple shots from long range.
The Bulldogs also had a 40-to-36 edge on the glass, led by nine rebounds from
Jaimee Cohen and seven by
Jessica Penner before each player fouled out of the game.
Sarah Mendoza dished out a game-high seven assists for SWOSU who had 20 assists on 32 made baskets.
The win against Northeastern State is the first for SWOSU against NSU under coach
Kelsi Musick and it snaps a losing skid to the Riverhawks that dated back to January 27, 2007. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 2-1 on the year as they head into a stretch of five straight road games, starting on Saturday afternoon at Missouri Southern.
