WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Following a one-year hiatus, the Southwestern Oklahoma State University women's basketball team is rekindling their in-state rivalry with Northeastern State. The two teams – both receiving votes in the preseason WBCA Top 25 Poll – will face off at 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.

While the Bulldogs hold the all-time advantage in the series, the recent history has been dominated by the Riverhawks. Northeastern State has won 11 consecutive meetings against the Bulldogs and NSU is the only team that SWOSU has faced five or more times under head coach Kelsi Musick and not defeated. SWOSU is 0-6 against the Riverhawks under Musick.

It will be another tough challenge for the Bulldogs after they finished 1-1 at the SWOSU Classic last weekend. They defeated Colorado Christian 84-65 to open the tournament before suffering an 82-68 defeat at the hands of No. 13-ranked Colorado Mesa on Saturday night.

Preseason All-American Michelle Fisher led SWOSU by scoring 17 points in each game and hitting 7-of-16 attempts from long range. Others currently averaging double figures in scoring are Chelsea Bates (12.0 points per game) and Jessica Penner (10.5). Kylie Boggess and Jaimee Cohen are leading the team in rebounding with an average of 7.0 per game.

Northeastern State has also faced a daunting schedule which has the Riverhawks 0-2 after the opening weekend of the season. NSU lost 64-55 to West Texas A&M and 58-48 to Harding – the preseason pick to win the Great American Conference – in tournament action at Arkansas-Fort Smith last weekend.

Junior guard Fontana Tate is averaging 10.0 points per game to lead the Riverhawks, who have been held to 51.5 points per game as a team through two games. Freshman Jamie Jackson is averaging 5.0 points and a team-best 5.0 rebounds per game to lead NSU on the glass.

Wednesday's game will be the final time to see SWOSU basketball in action at home until December 5th. Following the game, the Lady Bulldogs will play five consecutive road games starting on Saturday at Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.
