SWOSU is back home this week as they prepare to host Ouachita Baptist for a three-game Great American Conference series. Due to potential weather concerns, the series was moved up to Thursday and Friday at the SWOSU Athletic Complex. The action begins with a doubleheader on Thursday starting at 1:00 pm, followed by game three on Friday at noon.
The Dawgs enter the series looking to snap a recent skid after a hard-fought weekend against Southeastern Oklahoma State. While the team has faced a difficult stretch, they still boast a signature 4-3 upset over No. 7 Southern Arkansas from earlier this spring. Head coach
Cheyenne Mahy's squad currently sits tied for ninth in the GAC standings and is hungry to climb back into postseason contention, currently two games back from the cutoff.
Historically, the matchup between these two programs has been incredibly tight, with the Tigers holding a narrow 23-22 lead in the all-time series since 2012. However, recent history has favored the Dawgs, as SWOSU has won seven of the last ten meetings between the schools. SWOSU will look to use the home-field advantage in Weatherford come away with a series win.
Statistically, the Bulldogs rank eighth in the GAC with a .264 team batting average and seventh in the league with a 3.95 team ERA. SWOSU has been consistent in the field all season, sitting fifth in the conference with a .962 fielding percentage.
The SWOSU offense features three different hitters batting over .300, led by redshirt senior
Maddie Rahon and
Taylor McMahon. On the other side, the Tigers are powered by the bat of Emily Reed, who leads her team in both home runs and RBIs this season. Sophomore
Alexis Taylor and redshirt senior
Blaire Gentry continue to anchor the pitching staff, with a combined 88 strikeouts in 148 innings. Taylor has not made an appearance in the circle since March 20 due to injury.
This series represents a critical opportunity for the Bulldogs to gain ground in the conference race and secure a spot in the top eight. Ouachita sits seventh in the league standings, three games higher than the Dawgs.
