SWOSU Men's Basketball will look for its first win of the 2026 calendar year this week as the Bulldogs continue a three-game homestand with matchups against Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.
SWOSU came up just short in its first opportunity of the new year last Saturday, falling 77-72 to East Central at home despite holding an 11-point lead early in the second half.
Even with a 1-5 record in Great American Conference play, the Bulldogs remain within striking distance of the middle pack in the early standings. Entering the week, five teams sit at 2-4 in the GAC, leaving SWOSU just one game back of the crowded group as the league reaches Week 5 of its 12-week conference schedule.
Both opponents this week currently sit above that logjam. Henderson State is 4-2 in conference play and has won four of its last five GAC games, including each of its last two. Ouachita Baptist enters the week on top of the league standings with a perfect 6-0 conference record and an 11-2 overall mark. The Tigers are also receiving votes in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Poll.
Since the Great American Conference formed, SWOSU is 11-16 against both Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist. The Bulldogs have found success at home under head coach
Brett Weiberg, however, defeating both the Reddies and Tigers in Weatherford in each of his first two seasons at the helm.
Individually,
Ty Frierson continues to lead the Bulldogs in scoring at 12.6 points per game while also ranking among the league's most efficient guards. Frierson is tied for first in the GAC with a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio, tied for eighth with an 83% free-throw percentage, and is also averaging 1.7 steals and 3.1 assists per game.
Kayden Carter is right behind him at 12.0 points per contest and ranks 10th in the GAC in field goal percentage at 53%.
Kray Rogers is just shy of double figures at 9.4 points per game and ranks 11th in the conference in rebounding, grabbing 5.9 boards per game. In conference play,
Nate Reherman has been SWOSU's leading rebounder at 5.3 rebounds per game in just 24 minutes per contest.
As a team, SWOSU ranks 11th in the GAC offensively at 69.0 points per game while shooting 43% from the field. Defensively, the Bulldogs have been solid, ranking fifth in the league by holding opponents to 70.0 points per game.
