RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU Soccer earned a pair of weekly GAC honors following a shutout win over Pitt State over the weekend. Junior Julie Andersen was named the league's defensive player of the week while freshman Allie Vasquez picked up goalkeeper honors.
Andersen (Middelfart, Denmark) helped anchor a Bulldog defense that didn't allow a shot on goal in the first half against the Gorrillas on Saturday. Meanwhile, she had her name called for a penalty kick in the 44th minute and converted it for SWOSU's game winner. The goal was her second of the season which leads the team.
Vasquez (Wichita Falls, Texas) wiped away all three of PSU's shots on goal in the second half and earned her first clean sheet of the season in the 1-0 win. She has allowed just one goal with nearly 197 minutes of time in the net this year and moves to 1-0-1 when guarding the goal.
Andersen, Vasquez, and the rest of the Bulldogs begin conference play this week with a pair of road games. SWOSU travels to face Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee on Wednesday before closing out the week in Bethany, Oklahoma against Southern Nazarene.
