WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer earned a decisive 3-0 clean-sheet victory over East Central on Wednesday afternoon at the SWOSU Athletic Complex, with three different Bulldogs finding the back of the net.
The win moves the Dawgs to 4-2-3 overall and 2-1 in Great American Conference play. SWOSU will have more than a week off before returning to action in Arkadelphia, where they will face the other Tigers of the GAC, Ouachita Baptist, at 3 p.m. on October 1. The Dawgs will then travel to Harding on October 3 to conclude their only trip to Arkansas this season.
SWOSU quickly grabbed control of the match, as a beautiful transition play ended with a top-corner strike from Braelee Epp for her fourth goal of the season, which ranks second in the GAC. Kinsey Geasland and Saoirse Hourigan were credited with assists on the goal, and both would later find the back of the net themselves.
Geasland added her league-leading sixth goal of the season in her first year with the Dawgs after following up her own shot and sending the rebound past the outstretched arms of the ECU goalkeeper. The goal came before the 14-minute mark, giving SWOSU a 2-0 lead.
The score remained 2-0 heading into halftime, but the Dawgs added one more in the second half after Geasland was fouled inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Hourigan stepped up and placed her shot into the bottom-left corner to extend the lead to 3-0, which would stand as the final score.
SWOSU finished the evening with 32 total shots, the second-most by any GAC team this season and the most by any team in a GAC conference game this season. Of those 32 shots, 13 were on goal.
Goalkeeper Emma Young played all 90 minutes in goal, recording a five-save shutout for the Bulldogs. It marked her first complete-game shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.
