BETHANY, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer dropped Saturday's match against SNU, 2-1, closing out the opening week of GAC play with a 1-1 record.
The Bulldogs, after exploding for 27 shots (14 on goal) on Wednesday, the most against a GAC opponent since the 2022 season, had just 10 shots this afternoon, tied for the second fewest in a match this season.
SNU opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a strike to the top-left corner over the outstretched arms of SWOSU goalkeeper Lelu Lamb. However, it would take the Dawgs less than 30 seconds to even the match, with Braelee Epp scoring her third goal of the season after a beautiful delivery from Maya Thornburg, her second assist of the season, inside the box.
The Bulldogs and Crimson Storm looked like they would play to a draw late into the match until a game-winning goal by the home team in the 77th minute gave SNU the lead and proved to be enough to outlast the Dawgs on Saturday afternoon.
Saoirse Hourigan led the Dawgs with three shots, while Kinsey Geasland added two, with one on goal. Both teams notched five corners, while SNU outshot the Dawgs 14-10.
SWOSU (3-2-3, 1-1 GAC) will be back in Weatherford for a 5:00 p.m. meeting with East Central next Wednesday, September 23, inside the Athletic Complex.
