MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Dawgs were able to notch their first top 10 finish of the year with a strong performance at the NSU Men's Classic. SWOSU finished 10th as a team – just three shots out of the top 5.
Henderson State and Harding battled throughout the final round of play with HSU narrowly holding onto the lead in the final holes to win at -18. Harding finished one stroke back at -17 with Southern Arkansas behind them in third, with 16 strokes. All three GAC foes were the only teams that finished the competition under par.
Jack Phillips led SWOSU for the second straight week. He carded two rounds of below par play and finished it off with an even par in round three to finish at -2 for the tournament. It's the best finish so far of any Dawg through two tournaments. Phillips was able to accumulate 11 birdies and an eagle in three rounds of play.
Conrado Diaz Ermacora had his best round at the beginning of the tournament, an even-par 71. After he started off with a birdie on the first hole, he slipped with three bogeys in the next five holes before recovering with two birdies on the back nine. He would follow up by shooting 74 (+3) in the final two rounds of play.
Lucas Vidal started off slow with a 76 (+5) in the first round but came back strong with back-to-back 72s (+1) in the late rounds. He was able to write down five birdies and two eagles in the final rounds to make him the third best golfer of the week for the Dawgs.
Ryan Carlisle and
Lukas Hendricks rounded out SWOSU for the week. Carlisle started strong with a round one 71 (E) with three birdies before shooting +9 in the last two rounds. Hendricks best round came on the later round of day one. A 72 (+1) was highlighted by two birdies on the back nine of action.
The Dawgs will be back in action for their annual trip to Monkey Island and Shangri-La Resort for the Missouri Southern Invitational on September 23-24.
