MANHATTAN, Kan. – SWOSU Rodeo opened the 2024-25 college season at Kansas State last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday where the women captured the team title and the men were fourth.
 
After five victories (in 10 rodeos) last season, the women seemingly picked up where they left off. Junior Cheyenne VandeStouwe highlighted the team's efforts with an All-Around title at K-State. She tied for second in Breakaway Roping after winning the short round and was also third in Goat Tying.
 
The men were led by Dustin Sanchez whose 71-point bull ride in the long round held up to give him a win in the average despite recording no score in the short go. The fourth-place finish as a team matches their second best placing from all of last season.
 
Aside from Sanchez, six others on the men's team were inside the top 8 in the average in an event including Heston Harrison who tied for fourth in Saddle Bronc thanks scores of 70 and 76.
 
A trio of barrel racers all finished eighth or better. Hadley Tate had the fastest times of any SWOSU competitor with near identical 15.71 / 15.72 second times in her two rounds and was fifth overall.
 
The co-ed Team Roping duo of Hadley Teut and Wyatt Bentz also finished fifth in the average. Bentz went on to finish sixth in Steer Wrestling.
 
SWOSU gets no time to rest with another Kansas trek this upcoming week. The teams head back north to Colby where they'll compete in the second of five fall rodeos, September 12-14.
