WEATHERFORD – The 53rd Annual SWOSU Rodeo wrapped up Saturday night, with the men's team placing seventh and the women finishing 10th.
Southeastern claimed the women's team title, while Garden City and Fort Scott tied for first on the men's side.
The result snapped the women's five-rodeo winning streak. Seven Bulldogs qualified for the short round:
Cheyenne VandeStouwe,
Bailey Weeks,
Carli Stuva,
Kari Hepper,
Brandt O'Connor,
Heston Harrison, and
Jaylyn Hash.
O'Connor recorded SWOSU's lone round victory, teaming with a partner from Garden City to win the Team Roping long round with a 5.8-second run. A no-time in the short round resulted in a sixth-place finish in the average.
Carli Stuva and
Jaylyn Hash each posted second-place finishes in a round. Stuva clocked a 16.30 in the Barrel Racing long round, placed fifth in the short go, and finished second in the average — the top overall finish for SWOSU. Hash placed second in the short round of Tie Down Roping and went on to finish fifth in the average.
Heston Harrison delivered consistent performances in Saddle Bronc with rides of 72 and 72.5, finishing fourth in the average.
With the home rodeo complete, SWOSU has two events remaining in the regular season, beginning with the Fort Hays rodeo April 16-18.
