RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Junior outfielder Marco Barrera was named a Great American Conference Player of the Week following his nine-hit series against Southeastern Oklahoma State over the weekend.
It's the first GAC Player of the Week award a SWOSU player has received this season and the first of Barrera's career as a first-year Bulldog in 2024.
Barrera was 9-for-12 (.750) in the series against the Savage Storm, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 series sweep. He had three hits in each of the three games and drove in and scored runs in every contest. In the series finale, he doubled twice and hit his third home run of the season. He had seven RBI, four runs scored, and an on-base percentage of .813 thanks to three more walks and a hit by pitch.
After starting the season with just four hits in 13 games, Barrera has had 15 hits during a current six-game hit streak. He is currently second on the team with a .404 batting average.
He and the Bulldogs will take a trip to Ada this upcoming weekend to battle East Central in continued conference play. The series starts Friday at 2:00 and will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
