ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced its All-Conference soccer awards for the 2024 season on Thursday where the Dawgs picked up four selections, headlined by junior defender Julie Andersen who earned First Team All-GAC honors.
Andersen, from Middelfart, Denmark, anchored a defense for the Dawgs with 18 starts in 18 matches. No team in the GAC was successful on more than one penalty kick all year, but Andersen herself had two which accounted for both of her goals for the year. She added one assist for the year and finished with five total points for the Dawgs. After a second team selection a year ago, she upgrades onto the first team for the first time in her career. She and the defense posted five shutouts in 2024.
Hannah Gutierrez, in her third year as a Dawg, notched the first All-GAC finish of her career as a member of the second team. The junior from Albuquerque, New Mexico always seemed to be in attack mode for the Bulldogs as she led all Dawgs in shots on goal with 19 – a number tied for fifth most in the conference. She notched two goals and one assist on the year to accumulate five points for SWOSU.
Ashlyn Stigall joined Gutierrez on the second team, for her first all-conference selection. Stigall was the leader in the Bulldog midfield all year with 17 starts to her credit. She put six shots on goal this season.
Goalkeeper Terra Rybuck earned her first All-GAC recognition as an honorable mention. She played 11 games this year with 62 saves to her name. Her save percentage of .795 was good for fourth in the conference and she had three clean sheets.
Academically, Anna Bager was one of nine recipients of the GAC Elite Scholar Award – given to those holding the highest GPA in the conference with at least 70 hours of completed classwork.
SWOSU had eight placed on the Academic Honor Roll, an honor earned by holding a minimum 3.5 GPA with one year of full-time college residency completed. Those included: Julie Andersen, Fallon Brock, Elisa LaForge, Ashlyn Stigall, Summer Bass, Emma Garza, Terra Rybuck, and Ruth Vasquez.
