WICHITA, Kan. – SWOSU Soccer secured their first win of the 2026 campaign after controlling all 90 minutes against Newman inside the Stryker Sports Complex.
The Bulldogs have now won five straight games against the Jets and have opened the season 1-0-2, remaining unbeaten as they head into Saturday's matchup with Emporia State back in Weatherford at 1:00 p.m.
SWOSU took control early, outshooting Newman 9-2 in the opening 45 minutes. Overall, the Bulldogs held a 17-7 advantage in total shots while putting 10 shots on goal compared to just one for the Jets.
Newman played two goalkeepers, who combined for seven saves under all the pressure the Dawgs applied. SWOSU goalkeeper Emma Young faced just one shot on goal, which reached the back of the net in the second half.
In the 37th minute, reigning GAC Offensive Player of the Week Kinsey Geasland sent a rocket into the back of the net from outside the box to open the scoring for SWOSU. She finished the day with eight shots, five of which were on goal.
Sarahi Delgadillo scored the all-important second goal for her second goal in as many games before Brekyn Cope scored her first goal of the season. Following a corner kick, the rebound bounced Cope's way before she put it top bin in the 82nd minute to keep the game out of reach.
Newman's one shot on goal is the fewest allowed by the Dawgs since November 2022 against Northwestern.
