RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU golf swept the final fall installment of the Great American Conference's weekly Men's & Women's Golfer of the Week honor thanks to performances at the Tulsa Cup from Jack Phillips and Freya Sala.
Both Phillips and Sala earn the award for a second time in the fall of 2024.
Phillips (Sydney, Australia) won the men's Tulsa Cup by two strokes with round scores of 72-74-70. With the title up for grabs entering the final round he shot his only round of the tournament under par with six birdies – five of which that came on the back nine. His 10 birdies in three rounds tied for the most of any golfer in the field.
Sala (Mexico City, Mexico) notched her third finish of the fall inside the top-3 with a third place showing at the women's Tulsa Cup. Her opening round 69 (-3) helped propel her to a 10-over par performance in the tournament. Her 4.23 average score on par 4s in the tournament ranked tied for second in the field and she birdied seven total times in the tournament which included a four-under front nine in that first round.
At the Tulsa Cup, the men's team finished third, representing their best team finish of the fall, while the women ended eighth. Both teams conclude the fall portion of the schedule and will await the spring for continued competition.
