MONTICELLO, Ark. – SWOSU Softball is gearing up for their last road series of the year this weekend. They will get on the bus and cross state lines for a three-game series at Arkansas-Monticello. It will start with a Saturday doubleheader at 1:00 pm after the series was pushed back due to rain concerns.
Arkansas-Monticello enters the weekend 21-19 overall and 13-14 in GAC play. They are still firmly in the race for a GAC Tournament bid, sitting at sixth in the conference. Given their postseason berth is still in their hands, the Blossoms will be primed for this matchup. UAM has controlled the series historically and are 29-16 against SWOSU which includes a 15-2 mark in Monticello. The Bulldogs will look to have a repeat of the 2022 series between these two teams where SWOSU swept UAM.
SWOSU fell in all three games to a Southern Arkansas team who was receiving votes in the national poll last weekend. Their scoring has seen an uptick lately, as they have scored six-plus runs in three of their last four contests. Despite the offense, the Bulldogs allowed 35 runs in that same span.
After a tough series with one of the top teams in the GAC,
Brianna Cryer and
Taryn Westbrook will look to wind down the season on a high note. SWOSU's pitching against the Blossom hitters will be the focus of this series. Six batters hit above .310 in the UAM lineup. They sit at fourth in the GAC in batting average. They are also second in slugging percentage, third in on base percentage, and third in runs scored.
The offense continues to be led by
Maddie Rahon who is batting .340 on the year from the leadoff position. Rahon has 15 multi-hit games this season and was 2-6 against SAU after walking three times in the series opener.
