Softball Holds First Home Series

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball has played 16 games so far and for the first time this season they are preparing to host an opponent in Weatherford when Southeastern Oklahoma State comes to town this weekend for a three-game GAC series. The single game will be on Friday at 3:30 pm. Saturday brings the doubleheader, starting at 12:00 pm.

The Bulldogs are currently 4-12 and 1-2 in the GAC. Their record is reflective of the teams they played in a tough non-conference schedule. SWOSU has matched up with four nationally ranked opponents, including three who now sit inside the top-10 rankings. They are coming off of a 2-1 series loss to Ouachita Baptist on the road last weekend. The lone win was a huge morale boost, a 9-0 game called in the fifth inning due to run-rule.

Southeastern is sitting at 8-11 and 2-1 in conference. Southeastern and SWOSU have some common opponents already, with most being the ranked opponents aforementioned. They are 3-3 against these teams while SWOSU is 1-5. Their last game was a doubleheader with No. 4 UT-Tyler where they dropped both.

The hitting leader of the team is Jordyn Wadley. She is third on the team in batting average (.263), but leading the team in OPS (1.130), OB% (.472), and Slug% (.678). She has hit four home runs on the season, more than the rest of the team combined. Her 13 RBIs is also first for the Bulldogs.

Maddie Rahon is leading in total at bats and total hits with 48 and 13. She has been efficient while roaming the middle of the Dawg infield this season as well. She leads the GAC in assists with 46 and has turned four double plays on the season. Skyla McPhillips paces the team in batting average, hitting .333 for the season. McPhillips is the only other Bulldog to have multiple home runs on the season with two.

Kaylee Barkley holds the lowest ERA for SWOSU at 1.91 so far. She has made the most appearances for the Bulldogs (10) as a key reliever. Even with no starts, she has a 2-0 record on the season. Brianna Cryer also has two wins on the year in eight appearances. She has accumulated three complete games, including the shutout victory at Ouachita last weekend, and one save over these eight games. Cryer leads the team with 21 strikeouts and is tied for third in the GAC in batters struck out looking with 15.
