ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Bulldog Softball heads on the road this weekend as they travel to play in a three-game Great American Conference series in Arkadelphia against Ouachita Baptist. The teams will take the field on Friday to play a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm and will finish out the series on Saturday with a single game starting at 11:00 am.
With conference play beginning this weekend, the Dawgs are looking to get off to a hot start and will be eager to snap a five gave losing streak and should have extra reason to be motivated to improve on their 3-10 overall record. The Ouachita Tigers come into the league opener with a 6-7 overall record and are also trying to snap a three-game skid.
SWOSU's 3-10 record might be a little deceiving. They have played four nationally ranked opponents in the non-conference slate including the defending national champion and No 1-ranked team, Rogers State, and a top-10 opponent, Central Oklahoma. The early strength of schedule could prove helpful for the Dawgs moving forward.
The Bulldog offense runs though
Skyla McPhillips and
Maddie Rahon, a dynamic duo in the infield. McPhillips, who is currently leading the team in batting average at .320, has been a huge catalyst for the lineup so far. Rahon leads the team with 11 hits and continues to be a reliable staple for Coach Boone's offensive production.
Jordyn Wadley has brought the power in the early going. She leads the team with four home runs and 13 RBI.
SWOSU's pitching staff has been led by
Kaylee Barkley, who has been solid to start the season. Coming out of the bullpen she has posted a 2-0 record, with an ERA of 2.14 (ninth best in the GAC) in 20 innings pitched. The Dawgs could use another complete game from
Brianna Cryer this weekend as she's already thrown two on the year.
When the Bulldogs and the Tigers met up last season in Weatherford, SWOSU won the series 2-1 by scores of 9-3, 9-4 and 6-11.
