WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Men's Golf hosted The Perkins Intercollegiate at Prairie West Golf Club in Weatherford to kick off October. They won their first team title of the season bolstered by the top-two finishers of the tournament,
Max Bialy and
Anders Strand.
SWOSU's featured team won the tournament by a single stroke after edging Missouri S&T. Central Oklahoma, who brought two teams, had both tie for third place.
It's the first time SWOSU has finished atop a team leaderboard since tying for the top spot at the Tulsa Cup last October.
Bialy played the best golf of his Bulldog career this week. He took the individual medalist honor after shooting three consecutive rounds under par which included a first-round 64 – the lowest round of any player in the tournament. He staved off others with 68 and 70 in the next two rounds to finish 11-under. It's his first win as a Bulldog and is in follow up to his first top-10 finish which came just one week prior.
With his team leading by one stroke over Missouri S&T, Bialy knocked an eight-foot putt down to secure the win on the day's last hole.
Strand followed right behind Bialy in second place. He lowered his first-round score by three shots and stayed consistent in the third round to move up the leaderboard into second by the end of play. His second-place finish is his highest of the year.
SWOSU was rounded out by
Lukas Hendricks at T-32nd,
Sutton McMillan at T-34th, and
Otto Heden at T-46th. Hendricks and Heden both eagled in the tournament.
Playing locally, the Bulldogs were able to have a second team compete. They were led by
Cameron Gallagher who finished at T-21st on the leaderboard after 12 birdies and an eagle through his three rounds of play.
Caspar Graf ended in 27th and carded his squad's lowest round on Tuesday with a 69.
The Bulldogs will enjoy the win at home for the next couple of weeks before competing at the NCAA Regional Preview held in in Edmond on October 16-17.
