Enzo Bonventre Named NCBWA National Player of the Week

DALLAS, Texas – Enzo Bonventre has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II National Hitter of the Week, announced Thursday by the organization for the week ending on April 3.

Bonventre is the second Great American Conference hitter to earn the award this season, joining Kade Self from Oklahoma Baptist who picked up the honor on March 16. The GAC has had two hitters and two pitchers earn national player of the week recognition from the NCBWA so far this season.

Bonventre (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) produced a .684 on base percentage and a 1.818 slugging percentage as the Bulldogs went 3-1 on the week. He homered in a 12-5 win against Cameron. Against East Central, he went 5-for-9 with nine RBI. In game one, he hit three home runs, including a go-ahead, three-run shot in the seventh followed by a grand slam in the eighth inning.

The national pitcher of the week was Brody McCullough of Wingate University.

As a national player of the week, Bonventre also earns the NCBWA Central Region Player of the Week nod as well.

He and the Bulldogs are at home this weekend against Southeastern in a three-game conference series set to start Friday at 2pm with game one. SWOSU finds itself in a battle for postseason contention with one month left to play in the regular season.
