Rabo and Hughes Earn Nods For Final GAC Players of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The final week of GAC soccer players of the week have been released and SWOSU Soccer was well represented. Alimata Rabo won GAC offensive player of the week and Ashley Hughes claimed GAC co-goalkeeper of the week.

This is Rabo's second time the season winning GAC offensive player of the week. Hughes' win marks her third GAC goalkeeper of the week this season, the most of any goalkeeper in the conference this season.

It was a typical week for the standout forward Rabo. She tallied three goals in the two contests this week. She started the scoring off in the 4-1 rout of Southern Nazarene when she scored the first of the four goals in the game. She then took the Bulldog offense into her own hands on Saturday, netting the only two goals of the game in a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist.

Hughes stepped up in the box for these crucial last two regular season games. She saw 11 shots on goal during both games, yet only allowed one goal combined. She accumulated 10 saves for the week. The 2-0 shutout of Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday gave Hughes her seventh shutout of the year, which put her first in the GAC in the category.

Both players were main factors in the two wins this past week. They helped push the Dawgs to end the season undefeated in GAC play and win the regular season conference championship.

The GAC tournament runs through Weatherford and will start on Thursday November 3. SWOSU will take on NWOSU at 2:30 PM at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
