WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Due to weather conditions forecasted around the state of Oklahoma this weekend, SWOSU Softball has had to make a venue change for the first part of their four-game Great American Conference series against Oklahoma Baptist.
OBU will now come to Weatherford on Friday afternoon for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm, but the scene will then switch back to Shawnee – as originally scheduled – on Saturday to conclude the series with a 2:00 pm doubleheader.
The Opponent
Oklahoma Baptist (14-20, 11-15 GAC)
- The Lady Bison have won four of their last six games after splitting a doubleheader against Southern Nazarene on Wednesday evening in Shawnee
- OBU enters the weekend sitting seventh in the GAC standings, one game ahead of East Central – who currently holds the final spot in the conference tournament
- OBU ranks fifth in the conference in hitting with a team batting average of .295 with 26 home runs while their pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.72
The Coaches
SWOSU: Kim Maher (24-63, 2nd season)
- Enters year two of her time at the helm of SWOSU Softball looking to continue the rebuilding process of the program
- Named the fourth head coach in SWOSU Softball history on June 2, 2016, bringing with her a wealth of experience from the collegiate, professional and international levels of softball
- Spent eight seasons as the head coach at Purdue University, leading the Boilermakers to 240 victories and two NCAA Tournament appearances from 2006-13
- Previously coached at California-Berkeley as an assistant coach from 2000-05 following a playing career with USA Softball and the Women's Professional Softball League (WPSL)
Oklahoma Baptist: Pam Fink (643-643, 25th season)
- Holds the all-time wins record for Oklahoma Baptist women's athletics with better than 600 wins in her coaching career
- Was named the head coach at OBU in 1993 and she has led the Lady Bison to five regional tournaments and three NAIA National Tournament appearances
