WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball will host rival Northwestern on Tuesday (April 3) in a Great American Conference doubleheader set to start out at the Athletic Complex at 2 pm. It will be two of six conference games the Dawgs will play this week as they will also travel to face Oklahoma Baptist in the usual four-game series on Friday and Saturday.
As it stands, Northwestern currently sits one game ahead of SWOSU in the GAC standings and the Dawgs can overtake the Rangers with a pair of wins on Tuesday to take sole possession of 10th place in the league. SWOSU is four games out of the eighth and final would-be postseason spot in the conference and can put themselves right back into the playoff race with some pivotal wins on Tuesday.
Last weekend, SWOSU took just one-of-four from Southern Nazarene in a home series – a week removed from sweeping Arkansas-Monticello in four games. The Bulldogs split Friday's action with the Crimson Storm, but lost both ends of the Saturday doubleheader to drop the series.
In four games last season, SWOSU and Northwestern split both midweek doubleheaders with each other to tie the season series at two games apiece. In the first pair of meetings a year ago, NWOSU run-ruled SWOSU in game one before the Dawgs turned around and run-ruled the Rangers in the nightcap.
SWOSU's two arms have begun stepping it up in the circle as
Rileigh Ricken has allowed just eight earned runs in her last four appearances while
Miranda Grover has collected three wins in her last five appearances.
Offensively, the Dawgs are hitting .288 as a team led by six players hitting above .300 or better.
Kinsey Skroh (.387) leads the team in doubles while
Sidney Kirk (.349) has a team best 24 RBIs and eight home runs.
This weekend, SWOSU will travel to Shawnee, Oklahoma to face off against Oklahoma Baptist – another team fighting for postseason contention. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 5 pm start and Saturday will begin at 2 pm.
